Suicide Prevention Day at the Capital is an annual statewide event in which the Statewide Office of Suicide Prevention and the Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition are joined by advocates, survivors, grassroots organizations, youth, and other state agencies to bring suicide to the forefront as a public health issue.

This year, Suicide Prevention Day falls on March 24, 2010, but we are holding other activities throughout the week of March 22nd - 26th. Below you will find the tentative schedule of events, but I encourage you to continue checking our website for the most current updates as they become available (http://www.HelpPromoteHope.com). Please view the attached event flyers and feel free to post them on your respective websites and forward to your colleagues.

DISPLAY TABLES AND BANNERS:
Thank you all for participating in the 8th Annual Suicide Prevention Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 and helping to raise awareness on this very important issue. Here are the details you'll need to set up your display table in the Rotunda.

bulletIf you have a large display board or boxes to carry in please enter the Capitol Building from the North side, Jefferson Street entrance. You will need to check in with the guard house and then drive through a tunnel underneath the building. This is the service entryway and there is a loading dock where you can drop your large items with security. After you drop off your things, you may then leave and go park your car. Everything you bring into the Capitol must be scanned.
bulletKleman Plaza is usually the easiest spot to find parking, please be aware they charge a fee and you can only pay in cash. There is also limited metered parking on surrounding streets.
bulletYou may begin setting up as early as 8:00 AM on the 24th. We will do our best to provide someone with a dolly or flatbed to help you bring your items up from the loading dock to the Plaza Level or 2nd floor Rotunda.
 
bulletThe following organizations will be on the Plaza Level:

        Statewide Office of Suicide Prevention, Office of Drug Control
        Florida Mental Health Institute, USF
        Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition (with assigned space for one quilt stand)
        The Caring Tree, Big Bend Hospice
        These organizations will be on the 2nd Floor:
        Alachua County Crisis Center
        American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
        Mental Health First Aid
        CARES
        Department of Children & Families
        Senate Military Affairs and Domestic Security Center
        NAMI Florida
        Suncoast Yellow Ribbon (with assigned space for two quilt stands)
        The Jason Foundation

bulletThe following banners have been approved to be hung from the 2nd floor railing:

        Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition banner
        Suncoast Yellow Ribbon (2,570 yellow ribbon banner)
        Banner from Marsha Slade - 1 in 5 families affected by mental illness

bulletEach organization has been provided with one 6 foot banquet table and two standard chairs. All tables will be reserved with a sign for specific organizations to accommodate special needs. Tablecloths will not be provided.
 
bulletPlease begin breaking down your displays no later than 3:15 PM, as the rental company will be arriving at 4:00 PM to pick up chairs and tables.
 
bulletCapitol Police have been informed of your entrance so there shouldn't be any problems. However, should you encounter any difficult you can reach me in the office at (850) 922-9350 or my cell phone at (561) 729-7876.
